If you are about to become the permanent parent or guardian of a child who is transitioning from foster care this workshop is for you. We want to set you up for success with practical strategies that will help your experience a successful transition for your whole family! The focus of this workshop will be on what parents who are soon to be in transition need to know. You are soon to be in transition if you have or about to receive a proposal of a child or youth in care or you are a next of kin family with placement/transition plans underway.

Topics include: responding to challenging behaviours during transition, planning and managing contact with foster family or former caregivers, talking with extended family about their role, preparing for impact on other children in your home, recognizing grief and loss symptoms, managing daily routines like bedtime or meals, planning and scheduling activities, planning for school or daycare and coping with the stress of parenting without attachment.

Participants will receive an accompanying digital workbook to work on developing their individualized transition plan.
