Adoptee Mentoring Weekend Registration

AGES: 14 - 17

Program Description

This weekend (August 16 - 18) offers a rare opportunity for adoptees to connect and participate in activities together over three days with our mentor, Parker Johnson. Parker offers individual mentoring sessions for young people all year long and has identified the need for more community and connection between adoptees. He has created this weekend experience to meet that need!

Day 1 Friday, August 16th 5pm-8pm: Barbershop night, hosted by Lorian Mendel at Liberty Barbers in Quadra Village. Youth will have an opportunity to get to know each other in a casual, fun setting with music, pizza and snacks. If any youth are interested the barber shop will be offering haircuts and styles for a fee during this time. The barber shop will be closed to the public to maintain a safe space for the youth to connect with each other.

Drop off Location: 2572 Quadra Street, Victoria, Saanich Core, BC V8T 4E2

Day 2 Saturday, August 17th 10am - 3pm: Youth will meet at Esquimalt Church in the basement area where this space will be designated only for the youth in attendance. Activities include art, storytelling and creating a group image to commemorate the weekend experience (participants will receive a copy of this in the mail following the group). The focus will be on identifying common themes, sharing stories and building connection around the experiences of being an adoptee within families, schools and community. Youth will be well fed throughout the day, using the sharing of food as a way to create an experience of connection.

Drop off Location: 500 Admirals Road, Esquimalt, BC V9A2N4

Day 3 Sunday, August 18th 10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Youth will participate in a group hike at Holmes Pea, hiking as a group up to the viewpoint for lunch, and have a closing circle, and debrief of the weekend and what they will take away from it as well as thinking about goals and commitments for the coming school year.

Drop off Location: 733 Caleb Pike Rd, Victoria, BC V9B 6G5
