Teaching the Hurt Child: for Foster and Adoptive Parents (Webinar)

If you are a foster or adoptive parent and your child is struggling at school, this workshop is for YOU!

Children who have experienced trauma and caregiver loss often experience difficulties in the school environment which impacts their learning and social interactions. It is important for parents to understand, support, and advocate for the the unique school based needs of these children.

This webinar will cover the basics of Teaching the Hurt Child as well as strategies for advocating effectively for trauma informed environments and responses to children at school. Key topics include: 

  • assessing your child’s needs and tolerance for their learning environment
  • understanding how your child’s early experiences impact learning and behaviour
  • important messages to communicate with your child’s teacher about priorities for your child
  • creating an environment and relationships that your child perceives to be safe
  • adaptations that create successful learning environments
  • supporting successful social relationships at school and outside of school
