Staying Connected Through the Adolescent Years: Trauma and Attachment Informed Responses to Common Challenges

Tuesday March 5, 2024 @ 9:30am-12:30pmPST
Registration Deadline: March 4 noon

While adolescence is commonly known to be a time of big adjustment for both parents and youth, the experiences of adoption and foster care brings another layer of complexity to this stage of development. As young people are developing new ways of thinking and experiencing new feelings, they may also find themselves having a different perspective on their early life experiences. In addition, some adolescents also carry with them the impact of both physical and psychological impact of generational trauma.

When a young person’s coping capacity is overwhelmed with feelings of disconnection, confusion, frustration and chronic dysregulation they might begin to demonstrate behaviors and symptoms that are concerning for parents. Knowing how to interpret what you see and respond from a connected place will ensure that this period of development can be navigated together in a safe and connected way.

This workshop will tackle tough topics like disrespect, unsafe behaviors, mental health concerns, and complex birth family relationships and how parent responses can prioritize family safety and connection.
