Mom's Group Therapy

Mom's Group Therapy

You don't have to carry this alone.

Parenting a child with developmental trauma asks more of you than most people will ever understand.

You love your child deeply. You have fought for them, advocated for them, learned everything you can, and remained committed through challenges you never imagined. Yet there are days when you feel exhausted, isolated, discouraged, or overwhelmed. You may wonder if anyone truly understands what life is like for you.

This group was created for mothers just like you.

It is a place where you can speak honestly about your experience without fear of judgment or needing to explain yourself. A place where your love for your child and the complexity of your journey can both be true. A place where your wellbeing matters, too.

This group is for you if...

  • You are parenting a child with developmental trauma through adoption, foster care, kinship care or any other form of permanency.
  • You often feel emotionally and physically exhausted by the demands of parenting.
  • Friends, family, or even professionals don't always understand your reality.
  • You notice your child's trauma affecting your own nervous system and emotional wellbeing.
  • You want practical tools to help you navigate the challenges of parenting while caring for yourself.
  • You long to connect with other mothers who truly understand this journey.
  • You miss feeling like yourself and want to reconnect with who you are beyond parenting. If you found yourself nodding as you read these words, you are not alone.

A different kind of support

Individual therapy can be incredibly valuable. A therapy group offers something different—and equally powerful.

When mothers who share similar experiences come together, healing happens in unique ways. There is comfort in being understood without having to explain. There is wisdom in hearing how others have navigated similar challenges. There is hope in realizing that the feelings you've carried in isolation are shared by others.

About the group

As an adoptive mom, I have lived many of the questions this journey brings. As a therapist, I've had the privilege of supporting foster, kinship, and adoptive families as they navigate the complexities of developmental trauma.

Together, those experiences shape how I lead this group—with compassion, practical tools, and deep respect for the courage this kind of parenting requires.

This group isn't about becoming a perfect parent. It's about learning how to remain connected to yourself while continuing to show up for your child.

You don't have to choose between being the mom your child needs and being a whole person yourself. Together, we'll explore how to hold both.

Together we'll explore

Throughout our time together, we'll focus on topics that support both your parenting and your own wellbeing, including:

  • Understanding the impact of secondary trauma and learning healthy ways to process these experiences.
  • Recognizing your own triggers and responding to yourself with greater compassion.
  • Caring for your nervous system and developing sustainable self-care practices.
  • Setting and maintaining boundaries that are both trauma-informed and supportive for your family.
  • Creating routines and rhythms that honour your child's needs while protecting your own wellbeing.
  • Staying grounded and connected to yourself during your child's most intense moments.
  • Rediscovering your strengths, gifts, dreams, and identity beyond the role of caregiver.
  • Creating a compassionate story about yourself during this challenging season of life.

What you'll leave with

  • While every mother's journey is unique, participants often leave with:
  • A deeper understanding of themselves and their own nervous system.
  • Practical tools for staying grounded during difficult moments.
  • Increased compassion for themselves and their parenting journey.
  • Meaningful connection with other mothers who truly understand.
  • A renewed sense of hope, strength, and possibility.
